The specialty of oral and maxillofacial surgery in the United States: history and current status

Abstract: This article introduced the developing history and present status of oral and maxillofacial surgery specialty in the United States of America based on an interview of Professor Edward Ellis, who is Chair of the Department of Oral and maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, Texas and director of the OMS residency program. This article is aimed to provide references for Chinese oral and maxillofacial surgery education.
